Math can be fun. It just takes enthusiasm, engagement, and encouragement. That's where I come in.
I offer individual math tutoring to public, private, and home school students in Mitchell and Yancey Counties, NC. Depending on your location and circumstances, I will come to your home or meet you in the local library.
My focus is on tailored instruction, and I modify my teaching approach to fit each student's learning style. I have experience working with children with learning challenges, including autism and ADD/ADHD. It takes time to develop the trust that is needed for a successful student-tutor relationship, so I do not offer one-time sessions or short-term tutoring.
I invite you to read testimonials from the parents of some of my students.
Choosing a tutor for your child is an important decision. When you work with MathTutorPhD, you are working with me, and only me. I do not contract out to or hire other tutors. I am a native English speaker, and I have been a tutor for most of my life. I also taught math at the community college level.
I tailor my approaches for each of my students, and my focus is on building a mentoring relationship with them. Our partnership will result in your son or daughter making better grades and having greater confidence in their math abilities and in themselves.
We start with a free consultation, by phone or Skype. After that we'll schedule our first session, which focuses on assessing your child's current skill set. Then I'll summarize the results, including specific areas that need extra focus, and send them to you.
At that time we'll discuss the level of support that is needed to address your child's current math concerns as well as gaps in his or her knowledge. In most cases, a single 1-hour session each week is all that is needed. However, for children who are very far behind, I may recommend two sessions per week at the start.
